Foreign investors are still eyeing opportunities in Vietnam

(HCMC, Oct 23, 2012) - A recent survey of global real estate investors which measured 21 major cities in the Asia-Pacific region for investment attractiveness ranked Ho Chi Minh City #1 for hotels, industrial space, and apartments, as well as #3 for retail and #4 for office space. According to Michael Modler - Business Development Manager at Global Integration Business Consultants (GIBC) - this indicates that foreign investors are still eyeing opportunities in Vietnam despite ongoing economic problems and the prolonged downturn in the property market.

Mr. Modler's comments came during "The 41st Real Estate Night", which was hosted by HCMC Real Estate Association (HoREA) on Oct 23 2012 in Sunrise City (District 7). This topic of at the event was "Weathering the real estate storm in Vietnam", and GIBC was a main presenter along with the South Korea-based law firm, Logos. During their presentations, GIBC and Logos tried to help participants get a better view on the world’s economic situation, real estate markets other Southeast Asian countries’, and South Korean investment in Vietnamese real estate. This event paid much attention from professionals, media and attracted nearly 200 participants.

In Modler’s presentation, he updated the overview of global economy and politics and special emphasis to economic trends affecting the real estate market in Southeast Asia. According to his observations, Indonesia and Singapore are strongly attracting investment in market real estate thank to policy stability, investment transparency and safety as well as property law incentives for foreigners, etc. However, depending on the product line, he would consider to invest or advise to invest in Vietnam because of great opportunities getting from this country.

Next, Mr. Daekeun Chung shared the history of the modern real estate development in South Korea, the investment policy, investment funds and updated information about some large projects that South Korea is investing in Vietnam as well as the causes why the Korean investors have withdrawn capital from Vietnam recently and experience to attract investment from South Korea.
